Every Big Ten East Division team’s biggest question after spring football

Spring Football has come to an end, and the East division has stolen all the attention, but did all the questions get answered?

Was Johnnie Dixon for Real?

One of the biggest question marks coming in to the offseason was who would be catching passes from that deep and impressive stable of Ohio State quarterbacks. If the spring game was any clue, a name that few saw coming has emerged as a big-time threat on the outside.

That name is Johnnie Dixon, who was once one of the most heralded recruits in the 2014 recruiting class. He enrolled early, got some touches to start the season and then a string of injuries has made him an afterthought on this team.

Enter his spectacular spring game and spring camp. Dixon got his chance after finally being healthy and boy did he take advantage of it. He caught five passes for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half of the spring game alone.

It wasn’t just the two touchdowns either, as Dixon looked good catching the ball against hard coverage and along the sideline. With plenty of questions about depth at wide receiver and in the pass-catching game in general, having Dixon step up in the spring game was good news.

The biggest question was if this was a flash in the pan or if Dixon was for real? If the latter is true, this could be a massive boon to a wide receiver group that could use some experience to help build depth.

With Noah Brown and Curtis Samuel both gone as pass-catching options in the offense, wide receiver is going to be leaned on more than it has been in the past. Now, can J.T. Barrett be the pocket passer these guys need to make plays?
